Jarvis Finger is a prolific and award-winning author of a range of management books, magazines and online resources including Management in a Minute, Just about Everything a Manager Needs to Know, The Management Bible, The Classroom Teacher’s Book of Management Essentials, The Australian Educational Leader, www.justasktom.com, www.management2go.com and several entertaining paperbacks on matters educational.
His interest in St Helena Island began in the late 1970s when he was asked by the then Queensland Department of Education to investigate the feasibility of re-establishing a school on the island so that groups of visiting school children could learn a little of the island’s penal history and environment. At the time he found that published material relating to the island’s past was non-existent – the outcome being his publication in the 1980s of a series of small books for schools and tourists, including True Tales of Old St Helena, More True Tales of Old St Helena, The Wild Men of St Helena, and The Escapes from St Helena.
The St Helena Story is a further step in bringing to fruition his desire to reawaken public awareness of the fascinating role this small island played in Queensland’s history.
