Betty Lee

Betty Lee is a retired medical practitioner living in Brisbane with her partner and adult son. She has a daughter living in New South Wales. Betty is a great-niece of Eric Feldt and is sorry that she never met him. She grew up in country Queensland, living next door to her grandmother, who was affectionately known as Nana by many in the small town, and who was Eric’s sister. The family tended not to discuss the past or family history. Apart from the mention that
Eric had been Head of the Coastwatchers in New Guinea during the Second World War, little else was said.
Betty attended Somerville House and The Women’s College in Brisbane and graduated from the University of Queensland. She has been a keen bridge player and together with her partner has represented Queensland in interstate competitions several times. In her late teen or early adult years she read Eric’s The Coast Watchers and was impressed and moved by the story and his writing ability.
