Jill Mather

Jill Mather, a former freelance journalist worked for various international newspapers before becoming a television presenter, writer, and contributor of many short stories and articles for the ABC and other regional radio stations. A career change to tertiary teaching followed in North Queensland. She also wrote several books including Discovering North Queensland, The Ravenswood Journal and The Betrayal Cycle. After moving to NSW in 1991 she scripted a documentary about rescued walers in 2005 and won best documentary script at a Film Festival.

Jill was also featured in an ABC documentary film The Australian War Horses and has had over 20 plays performed.

Prior to being struck down with polio in her late teenage years she was an experienced horsewoman competing in many shows. In order to continue her love of horses and history she has spent her latter years documenting the important role Australian and New Zealand horses played in war.

She retired from tertiary teaching in 2009 after 23 years.
