David is a lifelong resident of Brisbane with a keen interest in local history, particularly in the nautical and aviation fields. Since an early age he has enjoyed observing the wide range of shipping and aircraft using Brisbane.
Born in 1945, he pursued a career with the Queensland Public Service, retiring after 37Â years with the Queensland Audit Office. He and his wife Heather celebrated 45Â years of marriage early in 2018.
He is fascinated by Queensland maritime history, particularly those aspects where information is superficial or scarce. He enjoys investigating these and properly researching reliable sources to put the full story on record in an interesting and readable way. Such subjects, published fully illustrated by Boolarong, include Brisbane’s wartime submarine task force, flying boats, Royal occasions on the water, the story of South Brisbane’s historic dry dock and the life of Captain Harold Chesterman.
David regularly volunteers in the Queensland Maritime Museum library, and has published various historical papers, contributes articles to a quarterly boating magazine and speaks on nautical historical subjects.
