Ross Davies

Ross Davies is an Australian writer living in Brisbane. He received a degree in commerce from the University of Queensland and also studied at the University of Strasbourg while playing rugby in France for three years. During that time, he developed a passion for cycling and later appeared on the ABC television quiz program The Einstein Factor with his specialty subject The Tour de France.

Based on many first-hand experiences, his debut novel Middle-Aged Men in Lycra features a fictional tale woven around Brisbane’s vibrant cycling scene but also incorporates a look back through the eyes of his main characters to the upheaval experienced in the city as a result of Australia’s involvement in the Vietnam War.

Making the change to non-fiction, Davies’ most recently completed book Three Brilliant Careers presents the story of celebrated writer Miles Franklin and two lifelong Australian friends Nell Malone and Kath Ussher who met in Chicago in 1914 and later served in all-female medical units near the frontlines in the Balkans during WW1. A family connection to Nell Malone created the motivation for Davies to travel to Chicago, London, Paris and Thessaloniki to follow the lives of the women and to unearth a fascinating story not previously published.
