I am who I am because of World War Two. My father married my mother in his army uniform and was immediately dispatched to New Guinea. I was born on 31 October 1942 at Gympie. Suffering postnatal depression, my mother was visited by my grandmother who witnessed my pram flung down a steep hill. Obviously, I survived, however, my grandmother was so concerned she took me to the historic town of Maryborough, where I flourished until I was 16. I joined the Commonwealth Bank in Brisbane in 1959, living at various boarding houses became a rich source to mine for my first book, covering five years of failed romances.
Being a spendthrift, and acquiring two exotic cars by age 21, led to my leaving the bank, as a suspicious manager could not accept my apparent wealth. Returning to Maryborough I set up a fledgling used car business at my grandmother’s house. This leads to the purchase of a house in a great business location. I married a local lass, and without her support, none of my success would have been possible. We raise two daughters while renovating old houses in the community, thus becoming landlords. Doesn’t this sound simple – well when you read my books you will find much more drama.
