Keeping the Peace Volume IV, like its predecessors, shows how fortunate we are — in Queensland as in other Australian states — to have a non-political, non-military system of law enforcement, with highly trained officers ready to serve the community and impartially enforce the laws made by our representatives in parliament. With this in mind, it’s very easy to lose sight of the fact that every day police officers put their own lives on the line to ensure public safety. Keeping the Peace is really their story, in their own words.

Laurie Pointing, the editor and compiler of this volume, started his working life as a station hand on a western cattle property before joining the Queensland Police Service in December, 1958 and rising to the rank of Assistant Commissioner. Following a police career spanning almost 35 years, and with several successful books already to his credit, Laurie has now used his wealth of experience to wield an editorial pen and bring together this collection of personal stories from Queensland Police Officers.
