We were lucky enough to have this part of the family visit for some of our last summer and so they were familiar with Manly Beach and Sydney Harbour.
A recent addition to our library to share with the children was an autographed copy of Flip & Flap. Not only was this new book with beautiful illustrations to share with the children, but it soon became the first request the minute we came on line.
This story about two young and adventurous Fairy Penguins, ably supported by the accompanying illustrations, has a worthy combination of tale, fact and messages that particularly the eldest grandchild could appreciate. She exclaimed “yuck” on our first reading about the litter in the harbour.
The language suited our grandchildren so that they could understand and appreciate the story as it unfolds, but also utilises vocabulary that would provide both a challenge and an enhanced depth of understanding and appreciation for older readers.
The factual content at the end of the story would support such learning.
We would like to congratulate Pam on the quality of both her writing talent and outstanding artwork. We are very much looking forward to reading and sharing her future work.”
