While the backdrop is a bitter industrial dispute, I liked that the story centred on a young family caught up in this David and Goliath struggle. I also liked the snippets of Australian history that younger Australians may not be familiar with. From the America’s Cup win to the horrendous miscarriage of justice metered out to Lindy and Michael Chamberlin, along with a smattering of political incidents and a brief outline of the 1975 constitutional crisis.
The book was an interesting and enjoyable read that also showed another side of a Prime Minister who billed himself as a champion of ordinary people, but behind closed doors was the complete opposite. Teaming up with his big business mates, “Hit as hard as you can, quick as you can, carte blanche from me.” says it all.

Paul Edgley has done such a great job in his overall writing of this book – he has cleverley based it on the authenticity of his research, and then masterfully tells the story of the effect on his profession and his family.
