R Jocelyn Doran

Growing up with all of the modern comforts of Sydney in the 1950s and 60s, young Jocelyn joins the glamorous life of an Ansett hostess flying around Australia’s vast country. On a station holiday with a friend, Jocelyn is awe struck by the magic, the colour and remoteness of the Kimberley country.
It is not only the Kimberley that captures Jocelyn’s attention; stockman, Timothy Doran, has ridden into her life.

Back in Sydney unreciprocated love takes its toll, but the Kimberley still calls.

Jocelyn’s autobiography is a moving and emotive piece of work that is beautifully written. The incredible and raw honesty shines through, throughout the entire piece and the reader cannot help but be drawn in by her friendly and endearing tone. The readers feel as though they are experiencing each event with her, holding her hand along the way. Ultimately, I feel that this wonderful work has great potential to not only draw a large audience but excel within its genre. The reader is taken on an inspiring journey of love, adventure, fun and hardship across Australia. This is a book that gets you in and I can thoroughly recommend it as a great read, and one I couldn’t put down until the end.

And of course there were tears, but also laughter.
What I liked the most was I could relate the wording to you personally several times even though I have only known you for a very short time.
What a life you have lived, with much more too come.

Well my dear old friend Jocelyn (Ruth) what an amazing book you have created. I loved it and it just felt like I was sitting in an armchair listening to you talking about your very interesting live on this planet. I read it in 2-3 days and thought you did a fantastic job. You are a star.

A wonderful book. An incredibly open and honest autobiography, that had me turning page after page and thinking… what is the next adventure, the next turn of life, the next people that Jocelyn wil meet? This a great story, so well written that you feel you are there every step of the way. I got the book at 1pm and finished it at 11pm, same day, and felt sad to have to turn over the last page! Maybe a good outcome of Covid19 that Jocelyn had the time to write it all down. Thoroughly recommended.

I loved this book well done Joccy.
Mum really enjoyed reading your book (even if she’s not a big reader) and learning about your lives together before they were lucky enough to look after Washpool and Sweetwood.
I liked that they were quick little chapters, which kept me wanting to read just another one.
