A significant history of the origins of the song, it will probably become a new bible for those who love to argue about facets of Australian nationalism, poetry, and folklore.
… Without her (Christina Macpherson) there would have been no waltzing and no Matilda. Lindner’s book virtually clinches this argument.

I totally agree with Professor Blainey. This book is now the bible on the story of our great song. What’s important we now have a better understanding of the roles of the two women, Macpherson and Riley, without whom the song would not have been written.
It is also a reminder to us that we are not the ones who are doing it tough. Those pioneers travelled long distances, taking many weeks and endured many hardships including the death of many children. Our life is easy.
