Allen Evans

These memoirs describe the remarkable life journey of a Queensland school teacher as he gained experience, at first in a challenging, remote one-teacher school through progressively larger schools, leading to appointment as one of the last school inspectors in Queensland.
As one of a large family in the Depression years, Allen Evans had a childhood with few luxuries. The war years were difficult and with three brothers in the army he had to devote much time to helping on the farm. He was fortunate to have caring and inspiring teachers and this led him to become a teacher. His early experiences helped him to cope with life at Guthalungra, a railway siding between Bowen and Home Hill in north Queensland.
Allen writes fondly of his family and the many friends he made in the various communities in which he served. He was especially blessed in having two wonderful women to share much of his life.
This autobiography was written especially for his family and close friends, but should prove interesting reading for a wider audience. We commend it.
